Racing Pedigree

Goldstar Racing Developments have a great deal of experience in the motorsport arena and a passion for Lotus and other British road and racing cars. Our experience encompasses Hillclimbs and sprints and our founder, Peter Shaw was the 1995 CCC/BARC sprint champion driving his Caterham 7

We have a great deal of Caterham and Westfield experience having competed in various Kit car championships and the Caterham 7 challenge for 5 years. Laterly we have been racing in the exciting world of International Historic Formula 2 with our Brabham BT35 and in 2003 Peter became the Atlantic trophy winner in the International F2 series.

One of our current projects is the management of the AA's Historic Racing Team activity, which is an innovative concept using AA mechanics to run a Formula 2 car in the Jochen Rindt International Trophy series. Find out more on www.formula2.org and see our specific section on the AA's Historic Racing Team www.aaracing.co.uk

Our current racing cars are shown below

Brabham BT35 chassis 6

This, the second Formula Atlantic spec BT35, was bought by Nicolas Cook direct from Jack Brabham who insisted that, as it would be run by Brabham Racing Services throughout 1971, it should be painted in works livery. Completed early in '71 and run in the British Formula Atlantic Championship, Cook finished his first race with BT35-6, April's 15-lap Arco Trophy at Castle Combe, in seventh. A fine fourth at Brands Hatch in June was followed up by sixth's at Castle Combe and Silverstone but where Cook placed in the season finale at Mallory Park during October is currently unknown. For 1972, 35-6 was prepared by Ron Dennis' Rondel Racing whose workshops were on the grounds of Nick's farm. Rondel were running BT36's in Formula 2 for Graham Hill, Bob Wollek and Tim Schenken who tested with Cook at Goodwood. Cook took the car to America in '72 competing in Formula B at Elkhart Lake and Laguna Seca.

In 1973, BT35-6 was acquired by Rob Turnbull who campaigned it very successfully in sprints/hillclimbs throughout 1974/5 taking numerous class wins and finishing respectively 5 th and 6 th overall in the RAC Spring Championships in those years. Owned between 1975 and 1984 by Andrew Fraser who also raced it effectively, BT35-6 then passed to David McLaughlin, Rob Haze and later Keith Norman. From 2001 we have competed under the banner of the AA Historic Racing team in European Historic F2. Driven by John Durham in 2002, the car took the Atlantic class F2 trophy and in 2003, driven by Peter Shaw, it won again reconfirming the racing pedigree of the BT35. The car has a continuous history and AA papers allowing the use of BDA, FVA or Lotus twin cam engines.

Lotus Eleven Le Mans by Westfield

FKB 6C is one of only 138 Lotus Eleven recreations manufactured by Westfield in the mid 1980's. This car, chassis number 65, was built by the factory's own development engineer, Ray Concar and was built and raced by Ray from new until February 2004 when it was purchased by Peter Shaw.

The car features a spaceframe chassis almost identical to the original and with bodywork being a mixture of fibreglass moulding and aluminium panelling. The Engine is a race tuned "A" series featuring a big valve head, roller rockers, high lift cam and fully balanced and lightened it produces in the region of 100 BHP. With just 480 Kilos to power this makes the car extremely quick even by modern standards.

Ray Concar spent many years perfecting this Eleven concentrating particularly on the chassis geometry, corner weights, bump steer, and rear suspension operation. These developments provide a unique level of handling and roadholding and proved themselves on the circuit during the 80's and 90's when the car was raced in the 750 MC Championship.

The Eleven features in the book "the Westfield Story" with the pictures illustrating some of the suspension modifications made to this unique car and also showing the car in action at Brands Hatch with Ray Concar at the wheel.

Originally painted in Volkswagen Miami Blue the car has recently undergone complete restoration and has been returned to the traditional British Racing Green of the Le Mans winning Lotus of 1959.

Lotus Europa

FAX 158K is a 1972 Lotus Europa Twin Cam which we are campaigning in the HSCC 70's Roadsport series with Rory Stockbridge at the wheel. The car has an excellent history being previously used in the Paul Matty Sports Cars Hillclimb Championship by Derek Jarvis. It has been modified within the HSCC regulations to be a front running machine in 2005. We await Rory's results with excitement!
